Start the new year with God’s blessing at Genesis 2008 and after 40 years of perpetuating the praise of Youths across the island, the Jamaica Youth For Christ have just about got it right.
What started as an all night concert has now evolved into an islandwide ministry, which has ministered to countless souls. This year’s Genesis will be a Triplefest celebration, with the event being held in Mandeville, Montego Bay and Kingston. Kingston also provides a lot more entertainment than just music as there will be attractions such as the Trampoleaper, Mechanical Bull, Rock Climbing and a spectacular Fireworks show which takes place towards the closing of the day’s activities.
The activities of the morning will present a lot of fun, especially for the younger children, but at 4:00 pm, the National Stadium Car Park will be the venue for this highly anticipated worship experience. Numerous internationally acclaimed artistes will be rocking the stage and spreading the gospel. Perpetual Praise, the worship group consisting of many of the individual performances of the night, will be one of great ministries to be welcoming the presence of the Lord. Headed by prayer warrior Nadine Blair, this ministry has reached out to not only many souls locally but also many souls abroad, in more recent times, the Cayman Islands. The man on da shout DJ Nicholas, known for hits such as Naa Bow ft Jermaine Edwards and Kevin Downswell, Suffering and Holy Ghost Church ft Kerron Ennis, will no doubt be one of the great ministries of the night. Known for his testimony, which includes him talking of his out of body experience, Moses will also be rocking the crowd. He released his album Testify in the earlier part of 2007, and everyone can see that it is easily one of the best albums of the year. With hits like Thunder Roll, and Praise Him Everyday ft Christopher Martin, Moses will have a hard task in selecting the songs he should perform. Releasing his second album, Island Worship 2, the minister, who is one of the most respected in the country, Jermaine Edwards will also be there. Judith Gayle and Kerron Ennis are among the list of female ministers for the night.
Fresh from the release of his double-disc album entitled The Prodigal Son: Songs From My Midnight and Break of Day, Bless will no doubt be one of the main ministers on the night. With his recent success and status as one of the veterans of the industry he will no doubt close the show. The only thing left to ponder is which one of his many songs will he perform? Where will he stick material or will he go back to the days of the Radikal Prodigal is anyone’s guess. The only one that knows for sure is God.
Also billed to perform are 2007 JCDC gospel festival winner Garfield Reid, Chosen Vessel and Gospel new sensation Omari.
As an additional bonus, the winner of the Gospel Face of Fame will be bringing his/her ministry to the crowd.
In conclusion, it seems as if this Genesis will be one to remember for years to come. When this night is over, all in attendance will have no problem being able to regenerate in 2008.
